What is a Beta Reader?

Hello everyone. Sorry for the posting delay, but things have been quite hectic lately trying to put so many projects together. Anyway, last week I promised to give you some more information regarding Beta Readers, so here it is.

I could start this by saying that being a Beta reader requires you to have a college degree in English literature, or at least have everything ever wrote in a given genre. Yes, I could say that, but nothing would be farther from the truth.

A beta reader is someone who loves reading, has a sharp eye for detail and a critique mind set. Now, don’t let the low requirements fool you. Being a beta reader requires work and dedication. After all, you will be on a deadline to deliver the manuscript with your review.

The process is quite straightforward. After you have finished reading the manuscript, I will supply you with a questionnaire about the book. You will be asked to comment on the characters, the setting, the story and its subplots, and most importantly, your overall opinion about the work. I will read the questionnaires and modify the story where necessary taking your comments into account. You will obviously have my deepest thanks for your work and your name will be placed in the acknowledgements page of the book.

I have already received a few offers, but I would like to have at least twenty before I start my selection, so if you haven’t sent your application yet, please do so. All you have to do for now is send me an email with your name and address answering why you think you would be a good beta reader.

Thank you so much for your help and support.
